Yellowdog Linux sponsored iMac Linux Competition

iMac Linux is pleased to announce that the nice people at Yellowdog Linux have provided us with several prizes for our first competition. The competition commences on May 19th 1999 and runs until August 1st 1999. Winners will be announced on imaclinux.net during the first week of August. This gives everyone a chance to put together a good entry for the competition.

The Task and How to Win
The task is actually quite simple, you must put together a project that is iMac and Linux related. Projects can be pretty well much anything some examples include :

  • Your own Applications
  • Porting of an Application
  • Documentation/RPM of an Application
  • iMac/Linux related Website
  • USB Drivers

Projects will be judged on Difficulty, Innovation, Presentation and Usefulness. We've reserved the final prize for the most Innovative Runner Up. If the first three prizes go to Applications/Drivers, this prize will be used for WebSites/Documentation. The idea behind this competition is to encourage iMac/PPC Linux development and contributions.

All projects will be listed and downloadable from imaclinux.net at the end of the competition. Winners will have direct links from the main page. So whether you think you could win or not, you will definately learn somethings by trying. If you wish to contribute but have a hard time thinking up a project try posting to the imaclinux mailing list, or email .

Submission and Registration
If you wish to submit a project, simply tar it up and attach it to an email to . If you project is larger than 5Mb in size, then place it on-line and email the url to me. We encourage everyone who wishes to enter this competition to register by sending me email with your email address, and a quick description of your project.

Rules
This competition is open to everyone. Judging will be done by the staff of iMac Linux and a developer from YDL. All entries must be submit by 11.59pm EST August 1st 1999. All entries must relate to Linux on Apple Computers G3 based iMac computer, entries which are Intel, Sparc, Alpha specific will not be accepted. PPC/G3 owners who don't own iMacs can still submit entries provided they are applications which work on the iMac. Websites and documentation must be related to running Linux or applications/daemons under Linux on the iMac.

Winners will be contacted by email for their mailing address. Prizes will be mailed directly to the winners by Yellow Dog Linux.
